The state of the big apple, as New York is refer to by many Americans due to its privilege history and been the strategic commercial capital of America if not the world.
The labor laws of the states of New York encompass the federal labor laws administered by the United States Department of Labor that are applicable to New York on the one side, and the state laws and regulations of The State of New York. As is well accepted that the federal laws in most cases are superior to states laws, almost all federal labor laws applicable to the states supersedes the New York labor laws.
Since some of the Department of Labor laws and regulations come with their labor law posters requirements as stipulated in such statutes, so does the State of New York laws and regulations have their accompanying New York labor law poster.
Apart from the federal labor law posters that are encapsulated in the New York posters like; USERA Veterans Benefits Improvement Act 2004, Equal Employment Opportunity is The Law, Minimum Wage, Employee Polygraph Notice, and INS Discrimination, OSHA- It the Law, Pay Day Notice, as well as the Family and Medical Leave Act. The New York labor law posters like any other states labor law posters include; Minimum Wage, Minimum Wage- Deduction from Wages, Minimum Wage- Wage Deductions, Minimum Wage- Tip Appropriation, Discrimination requiring posting of ‘discrimination along creed, race, color, age, color, sex, marital status is prohibited’, Clean Indoor Air Act at Workplace that requires employer to post ‘No Smoking ‘ sign in forbidden areas at the worksite, Right to Know- Toxic Substances that involve the display of ‘you have a right to know’ sign for job safety and health protection, Requirement For Fringe Benefits and Hours, and Employees Right are Protected. It also include; Construction Industry Fair Play Act that requires posting of such at the sites, Criminal Conviction Records with posting of ‘employment of people with criminal records’ for all to see, Public Works/Prevailing Wage Rates with current rates display on site for workers to see.
Some of the labor law posters of the state are translated and produced in some other languages apart from the customary English, for the ease of understanding by the diverse population of the state. It is noteworthy to say that though the labor laws by themselves may be a bit complex for the lay man to fully comprehend, understanding the systemic simply crafted messages of the labor law posters is always a piece of cake.
